My Chosen Brief

I have decided to do brief 2: a promotional package for a new film, to include a teaser trailer, together with two of the following three options:
  • a website homepage for the film

  • a film magazine front cover, featuring the film

  • a poster for the film

Out of the three options I have chosen to do the website homepage and poster for the film, as I feel these two options fit together better and will contain some of the same ideas. I also feel more confident to tackle these tasks instead of the magazine front cover.

When looking at the briefs and deciding what to do, I knew I wanted to chose a brief with video creation as the main task. Then looking at all the different types of brief in this field, I decided on brief 2 as I have a strong interest in the film industry and felt that as it is such a large area I had many options to chose what genre and style of film I wanted to create a teaser trailer for. This then is where I started my research, around genre.

I also felt that before going on I should research the definition of a teaser trailer, which may aid and help decide the genre of which I chose to base my film.

  • A teaser trailer is a short version of a movie trailer, which is designed to arouse the curiosity of interest of the audience, getting them excited about the up and coming film release.
  • Teaser trailers are sometimes released up to 18 months before the expected films release date, they are used to build anticipation and curiosity about the films they advertise.
  • Teasers can be shown at the cinema before other films, online and sometimes shown on television.
  • Usually lasts between half a minute and a minute.
  • Some companies literally tease their audience with puzzles and cryptic references.
  • They may also include hints and clues which viewers can follow.
  • Some include a web address, so viewers s can go and look the film up online. Some of these websites contain games or puzzles which can draw the viewer into the storyline. Others involve the viewer by inviting them to join a mailing list to receive information on when a longer trailer is produced and how the film is coming along in filming.

The last point will come in helpful when I am producing my website homepage.
